There’s something uniquely magical about Friern Manor, and Chloe and Josh’s big day was the perfect reminder of why I love returning to this stunning Essex venue as a wedding photographer. Set amongst beautifully kept grounds and timeless interiors, Friern Manor feels like an escape from the world — calm, elegant and overflowing with opportunities for natural, storytelling photography with Dream Catcher Weddings.
From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing. Chloe and her bridal party were already deep into glam, laughter bouncing around the suite as makeup brushes worked their magic. That soft morning light streaming through the windows felt like it was designed just for them — the kind of glow that makes candid moments pop effortlessly.
Meanwhile, Josh and his groomsmen brought their own energy to the day — relaxed, slightly nervous, and absolutely ready to get the celebrations underway. That sense of anticipation travelled through the whole venue.
Their ceremony was packed with emotion. As the doors opened and music swelled, Josh’s reaction to seeing Chloe walk down the aisle was one of those genuine, unforgettable moments that reminds me exactly why I love telling wedding stories. Friern Manor’s ceremony space offers such a warm and elegant backdrop — full of character without ever taking the spotlight away from the couple.
Once the vows were exchanged, confetti filled the air and everyone flowed out onto the terrace to soak up the sunshine. The drinks reception at Friern Manor always feels electric — fizz in hand, friends reunited, hugs all around, and kids darting across the lawns. These are the moments where my documentary style really thrives; the laughter, the quiet conversations, the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it reactions that become treasured memories years later.
With the gardens looking incredible, it was the perfect chance to whisk Chloe and Josh away for relaxed couple portraits. The beauty of Friern Manor is that you don’t have to go far — a quick step across the lawn and you’re surrounded by sweeping greenery, tucked-away paths and elegant architecture that makes every shot feel effortless.
As the day rolled naturally into evening, speeches brought the perfect mix of laughter and heart. Family stories, shared history, and a few moments that had everyone dabbing their eyes made the room feel even more connected. When golden hour arrived, the timing couldn’t have been better. Chloe and Josh slipped outside into that warm, cinematic light for a few calming minutes together — just the two of them, finally able to breathe and take in what had just happened.
Then it was time to party. Friern Manor transforms at night — lights low, music up, dance floor full. From their first dance to the absolute commitment of the guests who refused to leave the floor, it was the best kind of chaos, the kind that makes for brilliant imagery and even better memories.
Chloe and Josh’s wedding was everything I love photographing — joy, emotion and a couple who were fully themselves from start to finish. Friern Manor remains one of my favourite wedding venues in Essex, not just because of its stunning grounds but because every celebration feels personal and unique.
